• Cerro Negro Volcano and Sanboard

Experience climbing or sandboarding on Nicaragua´s most active volcano. This is a unique volcano hike you will never forget.

Cerro Negro is just 45 minutes from Leon city. It is the smallest but most active volcano of the Maribios Chain volcanic complex, with only 726 meters above sea level. You can climb to the top in approximately 1 hour and descend on the other side in less than 5 minutes using your feet like skies to slide at your own pace in the volcanic sand. Before reaching the top you will have the option to enter inside and explore one of the 5 active craters. The view from the top is spectacular; from here you can see almost the entire Maribios Chain and Leon city in the distance.

Cerro Negro Sandboarding (volcano boarding)

Cerro Negro is the only active volcano in the world where you can practice the extreme sport Sandboarding. Sandboardingis similar to snowboarding. With both your feet strapped to a board professionally designed for volcanic sand you can board down the side of the volcano. You will be provided with safety equipment and a training session before your descent.
